Fascinating history, diverse terrain and picturesque country scenery on this 65 kms section from fascinating Cowra to the petit historical town of Gooloogong
This contrasting trail will initially have you enjoying Cowra’s rich history which is verified by the town’s renowned POW Camp historical site where you can immerse yourself in the ruins, information boards and remnants of the wartime circumstances in the Central West. From Cowra, you will be treated to quiet, scenic country lanes that will take you through to the tiny location of Billimari where you will be rewarded with a half hour rest. (No toilets). Delving further into the countryside after your break, you will cycle another 25km via scenic River Road through highly productive farmland which boasts gorgeous views and when in season, carpets of Canola (brilliant yellow flowers) that make for amazing photo opportunities. Finally, you’ll cross over the Lachlan River before reaching the petit town of Gooloogong. Gooloogong has a great pub known as the "Goolie", as well as a takeaway store and general store, where food and coffee can be purchased. Please check opening times in accordance with your travel plans.
Goolagong Park has a lot of historical information boards detailing the rail line history and history of the town. Notably, Ben Hall the renowned Australian Bushranger hid from troopers in the cellar of a Coorte Cottage, a historical property, just 6km outside of Gooloogong which history buffs will enjoy.
